The Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Arts, History and Literature is a cultural entity that has been active since 1910, when its first records as the Brazilian Academy of History date back.

Under the baton of Afrânio de Mello Franco, he took his first steps, adapting to the difficult conditions for a Sodality to be established at that time on solid bases and with him were, among others, Alberto Rangel, Basílio de Magalhães and Ramalho Ortigão.

In the years gone by in 1958, with the support of Othon Costa, Judge Carlos Xavier Paes Barreto and Vieira Souto came together to continue the work of spreading the History of the Nation. Under the leadership of Othon Costa, the Academy carried out many activities, and its headquarters were still in Rio de Janeiro. Another important board of directors was elected in 1961, with the presence of historians such as Carlos Xavier Paes Barreto as President, Lemos Britto as First Vice President and Othon Costa as Second Vice President. In the years 1975, with the entry of Marco Antonio Rangel Pestana de Campos Salles, it recruited great names in Brazilian Historiography, in partnership with Dante de Laytano, Affonso Arinos de Mello Franco, José Honório Rodrigues, Luiz da Câmara Cascudo, and also in partnership with Fábio Bonifácio Olinda de Andrada and Francisco Martins Marques from the Pero Vaz e Caminha Institute.

We have chosen to list the names of former Presidents of the Republic and some nationally and internationally known artists. It is important to emphasize that in the more than one hundred years of the Academy's existence, an endless list of names have received awards from ABRASCI, which would probably not be as well-known today as the ones we are presenting here. It is worth noting that ABRASCI has remained firmly active since 1910, and is not equal in fame and notoriety to the Brazilian Academy of Letters, despite having been in operation for longer. However, the constancy and simplicity of its work, far from unrealistic and financially unattainable pomp, have indelibly marked its entire historical performance.
